Filter Bottle

Why does my Filter Bottle make a noise when I drink from it?

The breather on top of the Filter Bottle is what makes the noise. Although different, this is needed to let the air back into the bottle while you drink. Keep in mind that the JoJo Filter Bottle is different from normal water bottles, as it filters the water while you drink.

How many litres of water can the bottle filter?

An average of 210 litres, which amounts to 300 refills. To be safe, it is advised to replace your Filter Cartridge at least once every two months.

How can I tell if my Filter Cartridge needs to be replaced?

Because water quality and volume of consumption varies, filter service life will also vary. A drop in pressure is the easiest way to tell if your filter needs to be replaced. When using the bottle, this will be evident when you struggle to sip the water from the bottle (more than you normally would).

Can I wash my JoJo Filter Bottle in the dishwasher?

Yes. Remove the filter (the filter should never be washed as it will try to filter out the soap and this will shorten its lifespan), then place the bottle upside down on the top shelf of your dishwasher.

Is the bottle BPA-free?

Yes it is, and it is safe to use continuously for everyday use as it was specifically designed for that purpose.

Why is the water flow slower than that of a normal water bottle?

The water flow is slower because it filters the water while you drink. It is important to remember that this is not just a water bottle, it is a JoJo Water Filter Bottle.

Filter Jug

Why does the Filter Jug take so long to filter the water?

We make use of Disruptor 5293 PAC-S technology, as opposed to carbon filters (which is the most common in the market). This means that, once the water flows through our filter, an electrical field is created. This field is referred to as electroadsorption which traps contaminants such as viruses and bacteria. As a result, the filtration process can be a bit slower. Our filters are therefore ideal for applications where the quality of the water is unknown, and in instances where the water is used for consumption and needs to be safe.
Carbon filters are normally used when the water supply is mainly safe to drink but has a chlorine aftertaste, or if the water will be used for cooking. The filtration process in this instance is also different, as the water makes contact with the outside of the carbon as part of the process, and can filter through a little faster.

How many litres of water can the jug filter?

An average of 480 litres, which amounts to 300 refills. To be safe, it is advised to replace your Filter Cartridge at least once every two months.

Why is water spilling over my Jug Cartridge when I insert it into the Jug?

This occurs if the Filter Cartridge is not seated properly. Empty out the jug and ensure you firmly seat the cartridge to avoid water bypassing the seated Filter Cartridge. If this occurs, the water that is not flowing through the filter will contaminate the rest of the filtered water.

Can I wash my JoJo Filter Jug in the dishwasher?

No, it is not dishwasher safe and should be washed by hand. Note: ensure you remove the Filter Cartridge before washing it (it is advised to wash the jug once a week).

Countertop/Undersink Filter

How do I install the Countertop Filter?

How do I install the Undersink Filter?

The Undersink Filter is a little trickier to install than the Countertop Filter, as it requires you to tie into the water supply underneath your sink. It is advised to make use of a licensed plumber or professional installer to avoid forfeiting the warranty due to incorrect installation. Can I put hot water through my filter?

No, the system can only filter water between 4 and 38 ˚C. Using hot water can damage your filter media.
It is advised to only use cold tap water.

How many litres of water can the Countertop/Undersink Unit filter?

An average of 3000 litres. To be safe, it is advised to replace your Filter Cartridges at least once every six months. Alternatively, if there is a significant drop in pressure when the filters need to be replaced. Due to the quality variation in water and consumption volumes, the lifespan will vary.

How do I remove the blue stopper from the fitting in order to insert the white pipe?

Simultaneously, gently press the blue stopper and the collar of the fitting in towards the filter.
Then, while keeping the collar of the fitting pressed in, pull the blue stopper out.

How do I remove the white pipe from the inlet fitting on the Undersink Filter?

It has a safety feature that prevents it from leaking or releasing when pressure goes through it. Remove the blue retaining clip, then push the white pipe further into the connection, and while keeping the collar of the inlet fitting pressed in, gently pull the pipe out.

When do I need to replace the PP Sediment and Disruptor Filter for my Countertop or Undersink Unit?

It is recommended to replace them every 6 months, or after every 3000 litres filtered. If you live in an area with a lot of sediment in the water, you can however replace your PP Sediment more often to protect the Disruptor Filter and expand its lifetime (as it is the most expensive of the two filters).

What warranty does my Undersink/Countertop Unit have?

Both the units have a three-year warranty (consumable parts only covered for manufacturing faults and defects).

Inline Filter

How many litres of water can the Inline Unit filter?

An average of 1500 litres or 8 to 12 months for optimum filtration (if used as a backup solution and not permanently). Note: because water quality and volume of consumption varies, filter service life will also vary.

Do I need a pump to use the Inline Filter?

It depends on the pressure and application; the unit needs a minimum of 1 bar pressure to operate and the maximum pressure should never exceed 4 bars.

What is the flow rate of the Inline Filter?

The average flow rate is 3 litres per minute, this could vary depending on the operating pressure.

How do I connect the Inline Filter to my hose?

It is supplied with click-on-hose fittings that easily connect to standard clip-on hose connectors (not included).

What is the most important thing to consider when using your Inline Filter?

It is important to note the direction of flow (indicated on the filter). The filter only functions in one certain direction and the inlet and outlet are clearly marked for exactly this reason.

What do I need in order to install the Inline Filter?

This will vary depending on use, but if used with a hose you will require a supply and outlet hose (you can cut your hose in two if you want), as well as 2 x clip-on hose connectors.

Whole-house Filter

Can I install the Whole-house Filter myself?

It is advised to make use of a licensed plumber or professional installer when installing the Whole-house Filter, as it ties into your mains supply outside the house. Which cartridges should I use with my Whole-house Filter?

The correct combination will vary depending on the water source and your requirements. For example, if you have a filter for your drinking water and only want to use this filter to remove sediment and chlorine to improve the overall quality of your water for various household uses, you might only need a PP Sediment Cartridge (as the first stage of filtration) and a PP Activated Carbon Cartridge (as the second stage of filtration). If you want to use the filter to ensure all the water you use inside your home is not only clean, but safe, you need to use a Disruptor Cartridge. What is the difference between the PP Sediment and the PP Activated Carbon Filter Cartridges?

Carbon and sediment filters serve two different functions. Sediment filters catch sediment and particulates, while carbon captures organic compounds that cause bad tastes and odours. A sediment filter is a mechanical filter. It has a certain porosity that water can flow through, but not anything larger than the micron rating of the filter. Because a carbon filter removes particles by adsorption, it does not make as good a sediment filter. You often need one of each, or alternatively one of the two combined with a Disruptor 5293 PAC-S Cartridge. It will depend on the application.

Which water sources are suitable for use with the Whole-house Filter?

You can use municipal water, rainwater and even borehole water (if it has been tested and deemed safe for domestic use). It is important that the water source is appropriately controlled.

What is the operating pressure for this system?

The Whole-house Filter operates between water pressures of 50-480kPa, and the maximum pressure it can handle is 620kPa. Note: if the water source exceeds the maximum pressure, a pressure limiting valve may be needed.

How many litres of water can the Whole-house Unit filter?

An average of 80 kilolitres. This will vary depending on the combination of Filter Cartridges, water quality and volume of consumption. Alternatively, another indication that the filters need to be replaced would be a significant drop in pressure.

Disruptor Technology

When referring to the technology used, you mention Disruptor 5293 PAC-S. What does this mean?

Disruptor refers to a breakthrough technology, the first of its kind in SA. It is unique for the following reasons:

1. It uses a process called Electro-adsorption to trap and remove viruses, bacteria and various other contaminants.
2. It contains Powdered Activated Carbon (PAC) to reduce odours and improve the taste of the filtered water.
3. It also contains Anti-Microbial Silver (S) to disinfect the filter.

What does 5293 refer to?

The 5293 refers to the model of the filtration media as specifically used for JoJo filter products.

What is the difference between point-of-use and point-of-entry filtration?

Point-of-use systems filter water at the point of use and is usually installed at a single water connection, typically under sinks or on top of counters in kitchens. Point-of-entry filtration solutions are also referred to as 'whole-house water filters'. These units are installed at the main water line where the water first enters the home and treats all the water that enters your household.

How do I know which filter is right for me?

The type of filtration solution you require will be determined by your water source, the quality of the water, the desired application and personal preference. For example:

If you want a mobile water solution for everyday use, the Filter Bottle is ideal.
If you want drinking water for your entire family, the Undersink Unit is ideal, especially if you want an out-of-sight solution. If you are renting and don't want to drill any holes, the Countertop Unit is your perfect solution.
If you camp frequently or need to make use of water stored in a tank of which the quality is uncertain, our Inline Disruptor Filter is a good option.

Tank Mozzie Screen

When should you consider using a Mozzie Screen?

Mosquitoes love stagnant water, and could become a nuisance if you have a water tank that is not properly installed and secured at all connection/entry points. Our Tank Mozzie Screen is ideal to use for exactly this purpose, as it is a cost-effective way to keep mozzies at bay while still allowing water to escape from your overflow and promoting air ventilation and circulation.

Do I need any additional accessories in order to fit a Mozzie Screen to my tank?

This will vary depending on where you would like to fit the Tank Mozzie Screen and the year you purchased your water tank. In the beginning of 2020, we designed a new Full Thread Reducer (now used as the standard fitting for all Vertical and Slimline Water Storage Tanks) that allows for internal and external connections. If you bought a tank prior to the year 2020, you will only be able to fit the Mozzie Screen to the outside of your inlet/overflow. However, if you would still like to install the Mozzie screen to the inside of your tank, you can purchase the 50/40mm Full Thread Reducer separately.

How do I know if I have the old or new Full Thread 50/40mm Reducer?

What material is used to manufacture JoJo tanks?

Base polyethylene with pigment antioxidants and UV stabilizers to ensure an extended service life. JoJo uses the best food-grade quality LLDPE (linear low-density polyethylene) for all our roto-moulded products, with the exception of septic and conservancy tanks, which are manufactured with recycled plastic in order to reduce destructive waste output.

Are JoJo tanks UV-resistant?

Yes they are and this UV-resistance gives them their durability in harsh SA weather conditions.

Are JoJo tanks BPA-free?

Yes – we use the best food-grade quality virgin LLDPE for our products and our tanks cannot cause any damage to water. Our tanks are UV resistant, and all our water tanks are lined with an FDA approved food grade carbon black lining to prevent algae growth and keep the water stored fresher for longer.

What is the estimated life expectancy of a JoJo?

JoJo has a 10 year guarantee (extended from 8 years as of 1 September 2017) on material and workmanship. However properly installed JoJo tanks have been known to exceed a lifespan in excess of 20 years.

Can I drill holes in my JoJo?

Installation and maintenance of and JoJo tank should be in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications. If you drill any additional holes or make any alterations to the tank whatsoever, the integrity of the tank is jeopardized, and your guarantee will fall away.

What does S.G. mean?

Density of water: When considering which plastic tank to use, it is important to know that they are rated based on the "specific gravity' (SG) of the substance they are designed to hold. In other words, tanks with a higher specific gravity rating will have thicker walls and will be designed for heavier duty use when compared to another tank made from the same material but with a lower specific gravity. JoJo tanks are specifically designed for each intended purpose and it is necessary to specify the intended use prior to making a purchase. Specific gravity (SG) is the ratio of the density* of a substance to the density of a standard, usually water for a liquid or solid, and air for a gas. *Density: mass of the same unit volume 1 lt water = equals 1 kg of weight 1000 lt water = equals 1 ton of weight 2500 lt water = equals 2,5 tons of weight. What does (w), (m) and (h) stand for, and what is the difference?

(w) – abbreviation for water (SG 1) (m) – abbreviation for medium (SG 1.4) (h) – abbreviation for heavy duty (SG1.6).

What is the maximum pressure that a JoJo tank can handle?

An above ground JoJo tank cannot handle any additional pressure (internal or external). That is why JoJo offers a 6000lt underground tank specifically designed to be installed below ground level. For something smaller, you can use any of our conservancy tanks varying from 1250lt to 2500lt. Although these tanks are normally used for sanitation purposes, they can also be used for rainwater or greywater harvesting, and are made strong enough to withstand the pressure from the soil when empty. Note: If any other tank is installed below ground level a retaining wall is required.

What is the maximum temperature that a JoJo tank can handle?

A JoJo tank is designed to withstand the full range of temperatures that occur throughout South Africa: However, liquid stored inside the tank should not exceed 40 °C.

Is it safe to store petrol/diesel in your tanks?

NO PETROL can be stored in a JoJo tank. However, it is safe to store diesel in any of our chemical medium tanks (based on the material we use), although with the price of diesel in mind, we would suggest that you consider using a chemical heavy duty.

What is the difference between Vertical and Horizontal tanks?

A vertical tank is the familiar normal upright tank and is used for the storage of water, liquid fertilizers, chemicals and most other liquids. A Horizontal tank is also known as a transporter tank. It can be fitted onto the back of a LDV or a truck and can also be used to build a water-car. It is ideal to transport water to dry, rural areas or building sites. The chemical tanks are often used to transport and store liquid fertilizers, diesel, molasses, etc.

Choosing the right tank

What tank should I buy?

When choosing a tank, the following should be taken into consideration:

1. Space

If you have limited space, our Slimline tanks are the ideal solution.
If you need a larger tank to store more water, but have height restrictions, the low profile or horizontal tanks will be the perfect choice.
If aesthetics are of concern, or no floor space is available, you have the option of an underground water tank.
Ultimately, if space is not a problem and optimal water storage is the goal, consider our larger vertical water tank range for maximum storage.
We always recommend buying the largest tank that space, budget and practicality allow.

2. Application

Rainwater Harvesting – consider the rainfall in your area, your roof size, and what you intend on using the water for. The biggest downfall of rainwater harvesting is lack of storage capacity.
Municipal Backup – consider how many people you require backup water for, as well as how long you would like your backup water to last. The average person in SA uses 150L per day.
Fully Integrated System – consider how much municipal water you would like available as backup, then add the amount of rainwater you would like to harvest. You will require more storage capacity for this system.

Installation

Do I need a base for the tank?

Tanks must be installed on a sound, level and smooth surface. Level paving will suffice, or a properly designed tank stand. Alternatively a concrete plinth needs to be built, ideally with a concrete surface bed at least 85mm thick.

What are the basic installation guidelines when installing a vertical tank?

The tanks should ideally be installed on a 100% level, solid concrete slab of no less than 85mm thick. We recommend that you compact the ground thoroughly to ensure a flat and stable surface. The slab should be at least 100mm wider than the diameter of the tank to ensure there is no overhang. Tanks can also be installed on our steel tank stands purposefully designed by our structural engineers. The tank stand heights vary between 1.5 meter, 3m, 4.5m, 6m and 9m high. Can someone install my tank for me?

Yes – On our website under "Tank Installers" you will find a list of preferred installers who are equipped and capable to install our tanks. Can we build our own tank stand/structure out of gum poles or wood?

We recommend that you make use of the JoJo tank stands as they were designed by structural engineers. We are in no position to advise on a structure of any other kind.

Pump vs Elevation for pressure, which is better?

In order to get enough pressure by using elevation, a tank stand with a height of at least 3m is required. This will provide pressure of approximately 0.3 bar. Standard municipal pressure is 4 bar (depending on the area). We would advise the use of a pressure pump (if possible) which provides 4 to 6 bar pressure and is more cost effective. How do I install a Septic tank?

Maintenance

How do I keep my tank clean?

Depending on the size of the tank, when empty (and if it is not mounted on a tank stand etc), you can simply turn the tank on its side (on grass) and then using a broom/mop and some sunlight dishwasher you can easily clean it. Just make sure to hose out all of the soap when done.

My tank is damaged, how do I get it repaired?

It can be repaired by using a hot air gun to weld a piece of the same plastic as the tank over the split/crack on the inside and outside of the tank. Our recommended installers can also assist with that, find an installer in your area here.

Horizontal/Transporter Tanks

Do you have tanks that can be fitted on trucks?

JoJo manufactures a wide range of Horizontal water and chemical tanks (from 240L to 5500L) suitable for use in agriculture, chemical and other industries. A Horizontal tank is also known as a transporter tank and can be fitted onto the back of an LDV or a truck to build a water-car.

Can the Horizontal tanks be placed directly onto level ground as a rainwater tank?

The tank is definitely suitable for rainwater harvesting, as long as you order a water tank and not a chemical tank. Note: No tank may be placed on bare ground, since it is not stable and the tank will be damaged by the uneven surface. All tanks must be placed on a solid foundation (a smooth and level concrete slab is ideal) of no less than 85mm thick. It is very important that the surface is level and smooth to ensure a robust base for the tank.

Underground Tanks

What is the use of the 6000L underground tank?

The 6000L underground tank has many uses: it can be used to store greywater and rainwater, it can also be used as a conservancy tank that can be pumped out and/or septic tank. It is the answer when space and accessibility are an issue – especially in an urban environment.

Can I use my underground tank to harvest rainwater?

Yes – As long as it is a water tank. When ordering an underground tank for water storage purposes, it is important to specify this to ensure the black inner-lining is added as part of the manufacturing process. Our range of tanks that is suited for underground installation, is normally used for sanitation purposes and as a result is made from recycled plastic instead of food-grade plastic. Can I clean my underground tank?

It is possible to clean an underground tank, by literally climbing into it and scrubbing with a brush and any liquid dishwashing soap, etc. The opening of the tank at the top is 410mm, which is wide enough for a person with a slight build to climb through.

Septic/Conservancy Tanks

What is the difference between a septic and a conservancy tank?

A septic tank: designed for the disposal of sewage only, and brings about the digestion of organic matter and discharges the black water into a French drain to soak-away into the ground over time. Conservancy tank: disposes of both black and grey water, and is used for temporary storage until the waste is pumped out by a honey-sucker. Often referred to as 'heavy-duty' septic tanks, their structural design is extra strong and sturdy enough to withstand the pressure from the soil when empty. It is important that the correct tank is used for the correct application in order to avoid damage to the tank and to ensure the system functions properly.The correct tank will be determined by the type of waste, as well as the desired application and disposal method. What size septic tank should I purchase?

The volume you would require will depend on how often the tank will be pumped out (if it is a conservancy) and how many people will use the facilities on a daily basis. 1 x hand / face wash = ± 1 – 4 lt water 1 x toilet flush = ± 8 – 12 lt water 1 x bath = ± 80 – 150 lt water 1 x 5-minute shower = ± 80 lt water 1 x 5kg load of laundry = ± 80 lt water (depends on model of washing machine, etc.).

Can water from the basin and bath go into a septic tank?

No, soapy water or chemicals cannot be used as this will kill the bacteria and stop the normal functioning of the tank. "Septic Friendly" chemicals can be obtained from most co-ops or stores that specialise in outdoor products.

How do you enable the digestion process of a septic tank?

The digestion process can be enabled by using a starter pack (available at most outdoor stores or co-ops, or by simply putting a piece of rotten meat inside the tank).

Can I link/connect septic tanks?

If you want to use the tanks for water storage, it will be possible to connect two or more tanks. However, if used as septic/conservancy tanks, we strongly advise against it as the purpose of the septic tank is to separate solids from liquid. Even if the tanks are being used as conservancy tanks that can be pumped out, the tanks should not be joined and pumped out from one place only. If liquids are pumped out from one outlet, pipes will quickly become blocked, creating a huge problem.

Storing water inside a JoJo

Recommended Duration

In ideal circumstances municipal water can be stored inside a JoJo tank for a long time, as municipal water is chlorinated and safe to store for extended periods. Just be sure that the tank is properly sealed and that it is a water tank (with the food-grade black inner lining). It is recommended that the water is run once every two weeks to rotate the water and ensure that the best quality water is available.

Safety Measures

Is water stored in a JoJo water tank safe to drink?

All JoJo water tanks are lined with an FDA approved food-grade carbon black liner that prevents algae growth and ensures your water will stay fresher for longer. A JoJo tank does not cause any damage to the water; the quality of the incoming water however may well be an issue. Please remember that water collected from the roof of a building will not be clean. If in emergencies you need to drink the water from the tank, it must be purified. The best way to purify small amounts of water is to bring it to a rolling boil for a minimum of one minute, thereafter it will be fit for human consumption. For irrigation purposes, however, the water would be perfect.

How to keep the water inside my JoJo fresh?

What tends to happen with long term storage is that water goes "flat". To prevent that you can aerate your water. This is achieved by pouring water from one container to another a few times, at a slight height to re-introduce the air. You could also draw up a tank roster to rotate/circulate the water at set intervals by using that water for a few days to reduce the water level in your tank. Thereafter, you can refill with fresh municipal water (you could wash your car, fill up the pool, water the garden etc.).

All standard fittings on tanks are included in the price. A special diesel fitting is required for all oil-based products, please ensure this is specified on your order (a diesel seal can be identified by its yellow nut). Are taps included and what is needed additionally to install a tap?

Are JoJo dog kennels available in the same colours as the tanks?

Can I paint my tank?

Yes – just be sure to paint the tank with a plastic primer (obtainable from all co-ops and leading hardware stores) first, and thereafter with a good quality paint, e.g. Micatex that would shrink and expand simultaneously with the tank in all weather conditions.

Do you deliver to the public?

Our main distribution is through the major reputable hardware stores and chains throughout the country as well as leading agricultural co-operatives. Prices and availability will have to be confirmed with the distributor of your choice. Lead time to delivery is 7 to 10 calendar days for stock items, and 14 calendar days for non- stock items. How do I calculate how much rainwater I can harvest?

1mm of rain on 1m² of roof surface amounts to 1 litre of water. For example: 5mm of rain on a 100m² roof = 500 litres of water. Note: the efficiency will vary depending on roof surface, setup and pre-filtration method used.

What size tank should I use?

Every installation is different. We suggest you buy the biggest tank that space, budget and practicality allow (see Rainwater Harvesting Solutions for more detail). The biggest downfall of rainwater harvesting systems is lack of storage capacity.

DIY vs professional Installer (cost vs benefit), what is better?

This depends on the scale of the project, small projects are perfect for the DIY guy, but larger projects are too risky to get wrong, get a pro.

Do I need to change my gutters or make alterations to my roof?

With careful planning and execution, existing gutters require very few changes or alterations.

Would it work with any type of roof?

Thatch is about the only roof surface not suitable for rainwater harvesting, the others just vary in efficiency. Pitched or flat makes no difference.

What is pre-filtration and why do I need it?

Pre-filtration improves the quality of the harvested rainwater and protects the pump (if one is included in the installation). Basic rainwater harvesting installations only incorporate a mesh at the top of the tank (underneath the lid) to keep out dust, leaves, mosquitoes etc. Additionally, you can incorporate a rain head (removes larger debris) and a first flush diverter (takes off initial dirty water for every rainfall, improving the quality of water). What can I do to keep the mosquitoes out of my tank?

Mosquitoes love stagnant water, especially rainwater. The best way to keep them out of your tank is to ensure all connections are properly sealed. Mozzie Screens can be fitted to overflows and inlets that are not used as part of the installation to block entry for mosquitoes and other insects, while still allowing water to pass through.

Does the tank have an impact on the quality of the water?

All JoJo tanks are lined with an FDA approved food-grade carbon black liner that prevents algae growth and ensures water stays fresher for longer. A JoJo tank does not cause any damage to the water, the quality of the incoming water however may very well be an issue. Please remember that water collected from the roof of a building will not be clean. Should you need to drink the water in an emergency, it must be purified or boiled before it will be fit for human consumption. For irrigation purposes however, the water would be perfect.

Do I need to filter the water before I can use it?

This will vary based on the application. If the water will be used for non-potable applications such as filling up the pool, watering the garden, washing cars, flushing toilets etc, then you only require pre-filtration (of which a Rainhead will be more than sufficient). Rainwater that is used for full domestic supply, however, needs to be filtered to potable drinking water standards. For this you will require a filter that can remove sediment and particulates, as well as contaminants such as bacteria and other potentially harmful contaminants that could be present in the water.

What size tank is ideal for municipal backup?

First you need to establish how much water you need for municipal backup. This comes down to how many people are using the water and how long you want the back up to last. Household water consumption in SA varies from 25 to 150 litres per person per day (depending on what the water is used for). The size of the tank required = litres per day X total days back up required.

3. What type of foundation/base do I require when installing a JoJo?

It needs to be sound, level, smooth and at least 100mm wider than the diameter of your tank. Level paving will suffice, or alternatively a concrete plinth can be built.

4. Do I need a pump for my backup water system?

The water can be accessed via a tap connected to the tank (this means you need to manually fill up a bucket or watering can as and when you need water). For easy access to your stored water, as well as a pressurized solution, we advise adding a pump to your installation. How does the pump sense when water is needed inside the house?

When a tap is opened, the pressure controller (built in) senses a drop in pressure and starts the pump operation, i.e. pumping water from the tank into the house.

5. Is there an easy way to fill up your tank to a pre-determined level whenever required?

Yes, there is. Our float valve kit allows for effortless filling with an automatic shut-off. This can either be done manually using a hose, or, for a more permanent and automated solution, you can connect it to your plumbing line.

How long can municipal water be stored in a JoJo?

If your tank is properly sealed and is indeed a water tank (with the food-grade black inner lining) then you should be good for a few weeks, as it is chlorinated and safe to store for extended periods. We recommend running the water once every two weeks to rotate the water and ensure the best quality water is available.

Borehole Water Storage

Can I use your filters to filter my borehole water?

Borehole water is slightly trickier than normal rain or municipal water, as there are quite a few things that can contaminate the ground water (for example pesticides in an agricultural area, heavy metals in a mining area, E.coli in areas where there are no sewage services), and it is vital to first test the water to identify what those contaminants are to ensure you choose the right filter for your water source. Once you have tested your water (which we also advise you do every six months or so) you can refer to our website for a detailed list of all the contaminants our Disruptor filter range removes.

Our borehole water has limescale in it, is this something your filtration range can remove?

Limescale is a chalky deposit consisting mainly of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), which often builds up in appliances that use hot water. This is often referred to as "hard water". The concern around hard water is really an aesthetic one, not so much a health issue, and appliances don't love it! Our Disruptor range is very good at removing pathogens and bacteria, but does not remove any of the minerals as part of the filtering process and thus will not remove limescale from the water. We do, however, have a Corrosion and Scale Inhibitor in our range that conditions the water by changing the composition in order to prevent scaling from building up in your pipes and fixtures. Do I need a JoJo tank for my borehole, or can I just pump the water straight into my house from my borehole?

Yes, you do require a water tank in between the supply from the borehole to your house. Borehole pumps are made to start, pump water over a distance for a period of time, and then switch off. They are not designed for switching on and off constantly for short periods of time and if used in this manner could result in the pump burning out eventually. We advise that you use a borehole pump to pump the water from your borehole to your tank for temporary storage, and then pump the water from your tank to your house with a pressure pump that has been designed to do just that.

What type of pump is required from my tank to my house that can mimic municipal pressure?

A variable speed drive (VSD) pump is ideal as it kicks in slowly and adjusts the speed at which it runs according to your pressure requirements. This ensures minimal energy is being used while providing you with a constant pressure supply. You can view our range of VSD pumps on our website for more detailed information.
